Aluminium and Copper News

Aluminium rose more than 4 per cent on worries about bauxite supplies from Guinea, the world’s largest exporter of the ore that is used to make aluminium. Aluminium prices gained $113 to $2,820 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
Concern was triggered by a declaration of martial law in Guinea after violent protests led to the death of at least nine people. Unions have resumed a general strike in protest against the government.

Copper gained more than 3 per cent to $5,690 a tonne after a fall in stockpiles of the metal at warehouses registered with the LME. The fall in copper inventories was supported by evidence that Chinese buyers were returning to the market. Chinese imports of copper rose 44 per cent in January.
