NIFTY YESTERDAY

Nifty closed down 10.75 points or 0.26 per cent at 4,096.20. About 1050 shares advanced, 1486 shares declined, and 57 shares are unchanged. Among the 30-Sensex pack, 15 advanced while the rest declined. In NSE, there were 426 advances and 599 declines.

Among the sectoral indices, IT stocks declined 1.72 per cent, telecom stocks fell 0.91 per cent, FMCG stocks fell 0.73 per cent and PSU stocks were down 0.62 per cent while metal stocks advanced 0.96 per cent, consumer durable stocks climbed 0.90 per cent and auto stocks rose 0.45 per cent.

The major market movers on Sensex were Hero Honda which surged 3.06 per cent to Rs 738; Tata Steel gained 2.80 per cent to Rs 456.60; Hindalco rose 2.33 per cent to Rs 151.80; Bharti Airtel jumped up 1.88 per cent to Rs 806.30 and HDFC rose 1.34 per cent to 1,675. Suzlon Energy, Dabur, Tata Steel, Hero Honda and Zee Entertainment were the major gainers in the NSE. The major BSE losers were Ranbaxy which declined 3.54 per cent to Rs 381.50; Satyam fell 3.21 per cent to Rs 462; HLL was down 2.43 per cent to Rs 194.80; Infosys fell 2.38 per cent to Rs 2,310 and Bhel fell 2.12 per cent to Rs 2,311.
